And away we go

Kari and I rolled out of bed at 3:15 in order to make our 5:23 AM flight to Belize for our vacation.  Papa Jerry was nice enough to drive us to the airport, so it was an early morning for him as well.

Our flight from MSP to ATL was uneventful and after a long walk through the airport we quickly boarded our plane to Belize.   Three hours later we deplaned to 80 degrees and a partly cloudy sky.  Not bad 20 degrees in MSP at 5 AM, now 80 degrees in Belize at 12:30 PM.

Our driver, Ulithi, chatted us up about the culture, economy and history of Belize.  I asked him if he had any crazy stories about driving resort guest and he told us of on rider who insisted to stop in the river to swim.

We arrived at our resort Ka'ana and were warmly greeted by the staff and the manager, Wolfgang.  We dropped the bags in the room and grabbed a late afternoon snack at the bar.  Shrimp Ceviche and 3 Belikin beers.  We returned to the room to investigate our patio and it lounge chairs.  Two hours later we awoke with a warm tropical breeze blowing over us and a blanket of stars in the sky.

Dinner was a Mayan in origins.  Kari and I even made a couple of corn tortillas. Then it was back to the room and bed.  We had a great first day considering all the travel.  I think our favorite parts were talking to the girls about what they had been up to from science fairs to soccer games.

I needed 2 attempts st tortilla making.  The first one is actually what failure looks like.

Dinner: salad with ginger lemon dressing at 1, pork and a tortilla at 3, Pico de Gillo and a tortilla at 6, spinach wrapped snapper at 7, Sausage I. The middle,
Corn meal and chicken at 11.

A slow and relaxing day, tomorrow we will get this party started.
