Jeff Spicoli can't surf with these girls

March 30th started early, mainly due to the fact everyone was in bed by 7:30 PM.

Katie, Gracie, Kari and I all head down to the beach for a kayak.  There is supposedly a Green Sea Turtle that enjoys breakfast near our beach.  We paddle the shoreline for 40 minutes.  Lots of tropical fish, sea urchins but no sea turtle. Apparently the leopards contacted the sea turtles.  Regardless, it was a
great morning exercise.  The bay was beautiful and the water was clear for about 50-60 feet I would guess.

View from the kayak.

Paddle girls.

We had a great breakfast of fresh fruit, eggs and crepes.

Seriously, it is terrifying to watch this girl eat crepes.

We chilled out for a little bit and prepared for our surf lesson.

I watched some of the hotel ground crew work.

Then we meet at the beach for surfing.  A quick boat ride across the bay and we were ready to begin.

Ariel, yes our surfing instructors name was Ariel.  He was very nice.  First beach training on board position and the proper technique to get up after a few tries the Anseths were ready to surf.

Grace was nervous.  She paddled out with Ariel and on the first little wave popped right up.  After the hit the beach the next wave knocked her down and sent the board shooting around pulling on her leg.  She started crying, I was 100 percent convinced she was done.  She sat on the beach with Kari for a little bit but then rallied.  She started surfing again.  By the end of the day she would surf in and paddle out just like Kelly Slater.

Katie is the natural.  She is the Eddie Aikau.  The phenomenon paddle out caught the first wave and couldn't be stopped.  She also made friends with the other instructor and family surfing and was elected Mayor of the beach.

Wipeout

Ashley had a long stare down with her old enemy the Pacific Ocean.  After a draw surfing in Hawaii, she lost badly in San Diego during her near death kayaking experience.  It looked bleak early as the Pacific got salt water in Ashley's mouth.  The Pacific was also teaming with the sun to make it very hot. However Ashley rose like a Phoenix from the ashes of her previous defeat.  She ripped off several great sets and managed some fashionable poses along the way.  All the while surfing goofy foot.

Sisterly love!  The ocean is powerful!

Kari was the Gidget for our surfing adventure.  Super fun, cute and short lived.  Kari popped up on her first two rides and looked like a pro but decided she didn't want the pounding so volunteered to be the paparazzi for the rest of the day.

Scott, tried real hard.  I loved every minute out there with the ocean and with the girls.  The results were mixed but good enough to keep going next time we find ourselves on a beach.

Does physics even know this is happening.

At the end everyone was smiles.
