At 10 the bus picked us up for white water rafting on the Balsa River. 40 minutes later we are at the drop off. The crew piles out. We gear up, helmet, life jacket and paddle. A few safety instructions from our guide, FABIO, and we were off. Yes, our guides name was Fabio.
If you are a family of 5 you get your own boat. Ashley and Katie up front, Grace behind Ashley and Kari and I behind Katie. We start of with a little flat water and then some class 1 Rapids. After that warm up we have a section of class 2-3 Rapids pretty consistently for the next 30 minutes.
Then 3 amazing things happened:
1. Gracie stopped crying and started to have fun rafting
2. Ashley spontaneously smiled and appeared to be having actual fun.
3. Ashley and Katie worked as a team at the front of the boat to guide us down the river. Aunt Wendy would be very proud.
We all hopped out for a little float down the river. The guides stopped for a quick snack of watermelon and pineapple. The last stretch was a mostly class 2 Rapids. The girls took turns sitting on the front of the raft.
After rafting we stopped at a Costa Rican organic farm for a late lunch. A traditional Costa Rican lunch of rice, black beans, slow roasted beef and chicken with corn tortillas. It was great.
We then learned a little about the sugar cane. We broke it and crushed it and drank the fresh juice. Kari and I also tried a homemade version of moonshine made from fermented sugar cane juice. 1 shot was enough, that is for sure.
We returned to the resort of a late Easter diner as a family. Gracie insisted we dress up and have diner.
A great day full of blessings as it should be.

Looks awesome! Love the miracles! Wish we were there!
