Baptism by fat tire

August 20th, this entire crew headed to Nantucket.  We had an on time departure from Casa de Butner.  Everybody was on the same page.  Leave, Starbucks (hopefully you can feel my eyes rolling), on the road to Hyannis MA, drop the bags, drop the cars and get in line.  This was executed with the precision of a Swiss train system.

We boarded the ferry to Nantucket in high spirits.

Leaving Hyannis.

This crew partipated in meditative coloring

The adults enjoyed a beverage and some peaceful conversation.

We hopped of the boat.  We grabbed our bags and began what was to be a .6 mile walk to our house.  It turned out to be .9 miles.  I would like to officially blame Verizon, Apple Maps, the city of Nantucket and the ☀️.  Anyway our navigator, who shall remain nameless could have done a better job.  Some may have called this the Bataan March to the house.  Several residents were concerned we were an overly aggressive group of Jehovah Witness looking to hand out Watch Towers.  We did finally make it to 2 Lilly St.

The house was great-  plenty of space, nice kitchen and what appears to be above average Wifi.  Room assignments were made.
Troy and Lara
Abby and Grace
Sophie and Ashley (strategically placed near the router)
Katie to the coach room with the TV.
Kari a deluxe suite with a bouncy bed.
Ellie the loft
Scott the loft with a single booby trapped bed.

Seriously, I lay on this bed, roll over and the box spring drops through the frame and I spill into the wall like a sack of grain.  Might be Kari's subtle plan to convince me to loose weight.

Next items on the agenda, Lunch.
We tried the Brotherhood of Thieves.  A solid lunch to satisfy the masses.

Mussels

Mojitos

Next Item:  Bikes
We hit up the Nantucket bike shop for 10 bikes.  We rented them from the only guy in Massachusetts with a giant Twins tattoo on his arm.  He was instantly in love with us.  I even got a Fat Tire Bike which will be named Black Beauty for the week.

Now Nantucket is suppose to be a bike friendly island, but the downtown area is tight.  Cobblestone streets, winding roads , one ways so narrow that cars park up on the sidewalk partially.  Now imagine the 10 of us trying to ride back to the house.  Some complained, some cried and some cursed.  Abby B,whose total bike riding time before Sunday was under 6 hours, was baptised by Fat Tire Biking.

Grace is ready to get a bike.

After returning home some groceries were purchased and bags unpacked.

We decided on a little bike ride out of town.  This ended up being about an 8 mile round trip to Dionis beach.  Some didnt think we would make it there, some didn't think we would make it back.  Some didn't want to pedal up hill.  Some didn't want to coast too fast down the hill.  Some cried.  But everyone was a better bike rider by the end.  Abby Butner was my ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ MVP for perseverance.

Beautiful girls?

Once we got back to the house.  There was a women painting in front of your house.  She said something about wanting to paint a picture of a famous orthopedic surgeon on a Fat Tire bike.

I did a little Fat Bike recon.  There isn't a single straight street in Nantucket .

I did eventually make it to Brant Point Lighthouse.  It was established in 1746, automated in 1965 and it is still in operation today.  It guards the harbor where the ferry comes in.

In Nantucket, you can just walk up to any old Lighthouse and knock on the door.

After dark we ate a little B-ACK BBQ in Nantucket.  We wanted some place for a quick bite and within walking distance. Good BBQ not great, Burnt ends, chop brisket and some beers.  Everyone headed to bed in one piece, Thank God.
