Team Anseth plus 2 left the frozen tundra of Minneapolis for the airport on 1/2/2021. Our goal was to start 2021 off right. We arrived at Terminal 2 and boarded a SunCountry flight to ☀️ Aruba. Aruba is suppose to be one happy island and there is nothing wrong with a little more happiness in my world and the world in general.
Our flight was uneventful but our check in process was not. We had obtained COVID testing prior to departure that showed us all to be negative but it was not up to snuff for the Aruba department of tourism so after 1 hour of discussion, attempted app downloads and new tests we were finally able to exit the airport. Now we are off schedule and our airport shuttle has decided to take off without us. After another 1/2 hour of discussion we finally got another shuttle and made it to our destination, Hyatt Resort and Casino. Checking in went smooth and we were able to drop our bags in our room and relax. A little rooms service, a couple of beers and our luck seemed to be turning around. Well then Katie, G-Money and BB couldn’t access their room. A couple trips to the front desk seemed to correct the finally. I finally fell asleep at about 2AM wondering if things were ever gonna go our way. No pictures were taken on 1/2 to protect the innocent and hide the guilty. Ultimately most of these errors are relatively small in the cosmic scheme of things and mostly these issue were my fault, which is not fun.
Sunday morning I awoke to negative government approved COVID test. A few emails and Kari and I went for a little walk on the beach to get the lay of the land. Breakfast was great- eggs, crispy bacon, breakfast potatoes and......

After our walk the troops organized and we spent the day relaxing under a palapa reading and staring off into the blues and teals of the Caribbean.

Dinner at Passions on the Beach. The highlight were coconut 🍤 with a piña colada sauce, Red Snapper with mango salsa and pickled onions. Everyone enjoyed the food.
Quick picture after dinner, all of us are apparently basking in the glory of Ashley. A quick cab ride back to the Hyatt and bed. Aruba is a happy little island and this is a happy little crew.
People have struggled in big and small ways over the last 9 months. Friends and family have struggled. Members of large and small communities have been lost. Moments of joy have been lost and replaced with anxiety and sadness. For me it was nice to see all the ladies I live with laughing and smiling on the same day.
