Pretty typical slow start in Aruba ๐ฆ๐ผ everyone gradually got out of bed and made their way to breakfast. After breakfast we claimed our spots on the beach for a relaxing morning of rest and reading.
Kari and I did take in a walk along the beach as well.
Our view from the beach, same old same old
From the tide break
Kari and I. If you look closely you can see a social media “influencer” in the background
Not much to say about the middle of the day. Some ☀️ , some ๐จ, a little ๐ด not a terrible way to spend the middle of the day.
At 3 I hopped on my bike and headed towards Oranjestad. What sites were out there to see?
The bike ride was a little challenging. Cars seemed to be coming from all directions, pedestrians seemed to be coming in all directions and people on Bird scooters seemed hell bent on crashing into something. I passed Eagle Beach, Palm Beach, Divi Beach and eventually reached downtown. I went past the Renaissance and all the way to the airport. The wind was mostly a crosswind so it didn’t help or hurt that much for the majority of the ride. At one point it was behind me and pushed the speed up to 17-18 mph without much effort on my part. When it was in my face I was working to stay around 12 mph.
Conch sculpture. In one of the traffic circles
Statue of Queen Wilhelmina. Oldest statue in Aruba from Oct. 1955. It is in honor of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands 1898 to 1948
Aruba ๐ฆ๐ผ is “One Happy Island” at the tourist market center
Downtown Oranjestad was supposed to have many colorful Dutch buildings. I was disappointed. Many have been renovated and modern shops occupy the main level, significantly diminishing the charm. Some have fallen into disrepair. Oranjestad is relatively small only a few blocks deep off the water and much of it in clusters of strip mall like buildings. I was really hoping to find some old world charm off the main road and I didn’t find much
A memorial to the Free Masons of Aruba. I was looking for the clues to where the Dutch hid the Spanish gold. Nick Cage may have to help me decipher the code.
A little Dutch influence. Fort Zoutman, Willem Tower
The tower was built from 1866-1868. Named after King William III of the Netherlands.
The house was home to one of the first island physician.
Trying out a lensball on Eagle beach on the way back.
After 17 miles a little reward was in order. Ceviche and a Chill with a lime. Heavenly!
The girls wanted some pictures before dinner.
Holy Family Seniors
After pictures we headed to Gianna’s Italian restaurant we shared a great meal and a few laughs. The highlight was a pasta prepared in a Parmesan wheel.
The appetizer.
Parmesan Cheese grated in the wheel
Now that is a ๐ฅ!!!
Pasta about to go in.
Final product. If you ordered a wheel of Parmesan you can send it to our house to sit on the counter.
After dinner we sat in some wobbly chairs and returned to the Hyatt for a night cap . Another day on the island has come and gone - soon we will have to return to the snow and ice.
