We Grandma Eva makes it to Norway

8/27/2019 is a Monday somewhere in the world.  It is also the first day of high school for senior, Ashley Grace Anseth and sophomore, Katie Marie Anseth.  Both of whom I have missed on this trip.

The day started off early with a run around the boat.  I even made a friend who enjoys running around the boat named Bruce from Toronto.  Quick shower and breakfast and we were ready for our arrival into Aalesund, đŸ‡³đŸ‡´.

Sunrise over the North Sea.

Not a lot of traffic at 6AM.

Breakfast of Champions??

A selfie of me and đŸ‡³đŸ‡´

The team started organizing as we sailed into Ă…lesund.  Really beautiful to sail into this seaside community nestled against the granite and the water.

Lots of picture, sorry Kari the cloud is filling up.

Sailing into Ă…lesund.

Grandma “Risky Buisness” Eva has arrived in Norway.  Not sure any picture has made me happier than this one.

From the port we met with Mila or Shelia depending who you talked to in the Anseth party.  From the port we first stopped at a Norwegian historical museum.

These young ladies are listening very intently about Norwegian heritage or about how to get into a museum without paying.  Notice the sod roof on the building behind them

Only the fanciest building were built on level ground main floor: family.  2nd floor animals. Sod roof.  The family that donated the house moved it so no one appears to know how they kept the #1 and #2 from the 2nd floor from leaking onto the first floor.

Since there isn’t a lot of level ground most storage building were built up on rocks like this.  Hold it a little long and I will fit the last rock in G-Money.

Inside the a historic house eating Carmel cheese and a biscuit.  I thought I need to lean in for the picture.  No I just look dumb

Biscuit and Carmel cheese.  I am not even sure we were suppose to be in this building.  Mila just opened the door and ushered us in.  Grandma Eva is getting nervous.

Inside a historic house.  That arch is low. #concussionmaker

Viking ships. Versatile with a flat bottom so they could be carried anywhere.

Next stop was the aquarium.  Interesting info about the different species of fish inhabiting costal Norway.  We learned Norwegians love cod, earn a living on salmon and hate herring.

Grace and Marissa checking the fish out.

After that we drove to the senic viewpoint Aksla over looking Ă…lesund.  The views were breathtaking.  I think th 418 steps from Ă…lesund to the top are also breathtaking.

Senic views from Ă…ksla.

From here we head through a series of tunnels that connect the islands around Ă…lesund.  They are 30 meter below the sea floor and 150 meters below the surface of the water.  Mila was nice enough to mention that one of these tunnels has been in desperate need of repair up until the last year.  Our goal was the marble church.  A church that has been and is still used for services since the 12th century.  Mila managed to navigate us in without an appointment or a plan.

Grandma Eva is ready for the gospel.

The loft

A view from the back including the graveyard.

A short walk lead us to the marina.  Mom, Marissa and Wendy dipped their toes in the water

Ankle deep in the water somewhere.  Any deep would be...”Risky Buisness”

From here we journeyed to the lighthouse at Alnes. The views of the Atlantic were amazing.  The lighthouse was beautiful.  We couldn’t go to the top of the lighthouse because Mila need to get back for her next tour.  Lessons learned: it is easier to ask forgiveness then permission.  He/She who hesitates is lost.  The pictures are still great.

By the lighthouse

This lighthouse is awesome.

From the lighthouse Mila drove us back through the underground tunnels with one lane and pull out spaces for on coming traffic.  She passed a car on before a bridge rise. Grandma Eva was white knuckled the entire way and working on calming breathes.  Mila did this all while partially answering question and wearing sunglasses that made her look like a cat.

We arrived back in Ă…lesund. Mila appeared to park wherever she wanted. It seemed to be a random spot and she was at least 2 feet from the curb.  Anyway we all got out for a waking tour of Ă…lesund and the canal. She picked up her next tour and we all hung out together.

Grandma Eva, Marissa and Grace in Ă…lesund.

All of us almost falling in the canal.  Risky Buisness does not have enough commitment to her sunglasses.

All of us in Ă…lesund with a troll and Mila minus her sweat sunglasses.

We hustled back to the boat for dinner.  Grace and I tried to go to bed but she broke the lock on our door so after new keys we had to have maintenance let us in.  They worked on the door for 20 minutes before informing me they would be back tomorrow.  Finally bed.  Tomorrow is the fjords of Geiranger.  It should be an epic day if we can lock our room.

Nobody is crabby tonight

Wait for it....
Today I met a lady from Paynesville, WI. She was not drunk.  She was pleasant and she attended the Ice Bowl between the Cowboys and the Packers.  Her Grandma also went to Super Bowl I.

More importantly our server Mario was an extra in Game of Thrones, seasons 2-4.  He has promised proof before the cruise is over.  He was killed at least once or twice in King’s Landing.

I am 1 degree away from being Peter Dinklage’s friend.

Geiranger and the Fjords tomorrow.
