March 6th was a strange Tuesday. We stayed at Avery nice hotel last night.
Great dinner, great beds. No horns, no Jackhammers, no car alarms and no fighting dogs. Everyone seems to have gotten a good nights sleep. The only down side was that it wasn’t long enough. Up at 4:30 for breakfast. We had cured meats, pancakes breads. It was a great buffet to bad it was at 4:30 AM.
This is where we got our honey in the morning.
On the bus at 5 AM, on the plane at 7ish and in Lima by 8:30ish
At least we had a beautiful morning on the way out of Cusco.
Once in Lima, we loaded our stuff onto a tour bus and headed out to the suburb of Barronco. I was here that we said goodbye to Nil. It was very sad to see our guide and friend go. He had shared so much of his country and himself with us. Many pictures were taken and a few tears were shed. He made this trip so amazing and special for all of us that it is hard to find the right words to express my/our gratitude.
However, life moves on. In Barranco, our new guide Omar lead us to the American embassy. Weary spirits were lifted, hungry bellies were filled.
The embassy always has banos and WiFi
The Plaza next to Starbucks was quite beautiful.
The Virgin Mary
The church on one side of the square.
After Starbucks, we visited a sandy beach. The kids ran and jumped and had a much better time then I anticipated. Some got wet, all got sandy
Peru 2018 is legendary.
The faces you make when 2 creepy Asian guys video you with their phone in Lima.
Random mural on the way to the beach.
On the beach with Katie
From here we head to lunch. It was a fabulous Spanish style lunch. Spanish omelet of eggs and potatoes. A rice and beans with chicken dish and to finish it off apple pie.
At this point things did breakdown a little. We found our group of 37 would now be 4 groups
Katie, me, Austin and Bush family would fly Latam for Lima to Miami and then home.
Another group will fly JetBlue to Ft. Lauderdale and the Delta home.
Another group flys Delta to Atlanta and then home.
The last groups flys United to Houston then Chicago and the home.
Theoretically everyone should be home by 6 tomorrow night. Many were frustrated by the timing. I know Nil and Denise worked tirelessly on this. Scott H was also burning up the phone lines to make this incredible journey home less painless for everyone.
At this point, Katie is convinced we are going to die ina firey plane crash over the Gulf of Mexico. I could not get her right but Shannon and Denise managed to get her over the hump.
After everyone sorted themselves we headed back to Centro Lima to walk around a bit.
A statue of Jose de San Martin on of the Liberators of Peru.
The Hornets rallying at a hotel by the Plaza
Walking the Jiron de la Union. Lots of cool street performers, lots of shops and a few creepers looking at the girls.
Nobody felt like walking much so we stopped at a restaurant of fthe square, Peru Gourmet. The food was good. I like both ceviche dishes. The bottom one had a little more spice. It ended up being a great spot to rest and unwind. We also go to catch the PSG vs Real Madrid game.

From there it wa back to the square, Plaza de Armas for a few last pictures.

A great bunch of kids in the Plaza. Let’s go home!
Katie and I leaving the Plaza.
We are sitting at the airport waiting to leave for Miami. Katie is asleep on my lap. I am not sure if she still thinks we are going to die. If we do I hope you guys find this phone because I think this week of blogging has been pretty top shelf. If you read this at home on your computer the. I was right we didn’t die.
12:15 to Miami and theoretically we will land in MSP by 11:35
#cominghome #tiredgirl. #iamgonnadestroyCulverstomorrowafternoon
This is the face you make when clear customs, manage to get through TSA and sprint the entire length of Miami International Airport’s D concourse to make you connection. We are almost home.
When you finally get back to MSP.
Can I get an amen 🙏🏻!!!
What a great trip.
